Thank you to Parkway Bakery and Tavern for sponsoring a tree planting this fall in Mid-City! Parkway’s owner, Jay Nix, has been instrumental in driving green infrastructure as a way to live with stormwater. His permeable parking lot utilizes the True Grid technology for keeping aggregate in place, and he exceeded the city’s requirement for planting trees by installing over 30 native trees in the parking lot and right-of-way.
SOUL is thrilled to partner with Algiers Point and the Algiers Point Neighborhood Association in reforesting their neighborhood! Let us know if you would like to participate in this exciting project, either by planting trees, fundraising or acting as a block captain. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if interested.
Our third community partner is the Broadmoor Improvement Association. Our goal is to plant 700 trees, implement green infrastructure on 4 neutral grounds, educate Broadmoor’s community about these interventions, and create a case study so that communities facing the same challenges both here and around the world can replicate this project. This project is but the first phase of mitigating Broadmoor’s subsidence and localized flooding.
