Information for Residents

SOUL is bringing free trees to Little Woods and your property may be on the list. When SOUL is planting in your area, you’ll see us on your block. If your property has a qualifying right-of-way, we will select a tree for your address, mail you a letter, and leave a door hanger. The letter will include your tree species, your scheduled planting date, and a deadline to opt out if you’d rather not have a tree planted. At any point in the process, you may contact SOUL to opt out, discuss your tree selection, ask questions, or request a yard or backyard tree.

What to expect:

  • We plant native, water-loving trees that thrive in the New Orleans climate. Each tree is carefully selected with your specific location in mind and placed to avoid risks and conflicts with utilities.
  • Planting season runs from October through March, with exact dates announced a few weeks in advance.
  • We buy trees a few weeks before planting day. If you don’t want a tree, please tell us early. This helps us order the right number.
  • Trees are planted by SOUL volunteers or our contractor, Audubon Tree Care.
  • SOUL will plant your tree, water it for one year, and provide light maintenance (such as mulching and straightening) at no cost.

Questions? Want to opt out? Interested in a tree for your yard or back yard? We’d love to hear from you.

Call or text (504) 233-4639 (Mon-Thurs, 9am-5pm) or email us at trees@soulnola.org to get in touch.

We will continue to seek funding to continue our work in this area.
