Tree Planting Process

SOUL partners with the New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways on all of its public tree plantings- trees planted on neutral grounds and in the rights-of-way (strip between sidewalk and street).

The process for getting a tree planted through SOUL is:

  1. Attend one of SOUL’s info sessions when possible
  2. Please review the city’s guidelines about planting public trees.
  3. Fill out a permit application and submit it via email to sburley@soulnola.org.
  4. Complete SOUL’s online tree planting agreement.

Please note that tree planting season in New Orleans is November – March. The earlier in the season that trees are planted, the higher their chance is for survival.

Please view SOUL’s recommended tree species.
